Al-WASL OPERA

Maha was co-librettist for the first UAE opera.

Commissioned by Expo 2020, Al-Wasl was an ambitious undertaking with music composed by Emirati composer, Mohammad Fairuz. The opera was performed by the Welsh National Opera in December 2021 at Dubai Opera.

The storyline stretches about 4,000 years, from the past into the future.

Al Wasl Opera was commissioned by the Dubai Opera in conjunction with the Dubai World Expo 2020. The work has its world premiere on 16 December 2021 at Dubai Opera, in a production directed by Sir David Pountney and conducted by conductor Justin Brown. The production features over 100 musicians and performers.
